MULTIPLE
FLUTE PLAYING I am an orchestral flutist, and I perform on the Japanese Shakuhachi, Chinese Xun and Dizi, and the Indian Bansuri. I have been freely exchanging the techniques of one flute to another since 1990, in both notated and improvisation contexts. In the case of the Chinese Xun (ceramic or stone vessel flute) which does not have a 'classical' tradition, I have created a novel technique from this repository. Most of the examples draw from my work as a composer of interactive (pitch-tracking based) computer music. As you can hear, this introduces an additional sense of multiple. |
