Cilia at D-22 Beijing

CILIA

The recording below is of a solo performance at D-22 in Beijing, July 26, 2007.  The Cilia is an electronic flute controller modeled on the performance gestures of the Shakuhachi (though the music sounds nothing remotely like the Shakuhachi!).  Customized computer sound and interaction.  This is a first solo concert using it.  Look for a description of the instrument in the multiple flute page.

Choshi Shoes

July 26, 2006. This is one movement of nine.  Shakuhachi and two computers, each movement redefining what pitch-tracking interaction means.  Chamber music for one player.  Choshi is a traditional shakuhachi piece that every player from whatever school knows in their own way.  It means variously: warming up, tuning, and meditating (attuning?).  The first movement is more or less straightforward rendition.  Every other movement offers variations on a part of the original.  As the concept of interaction changes from movement to movement, the work is also a variation on variations.

Beijing Radio774 Interview

Was it Dec. of 2006?  I met with Beijing Radio774 producer Zhou Min for what i thought was an interview for work.  She had done some homework on me, and it turned out that she wanted to do an hour interview about me.  Very spontaneous.  But fun!
